Access to capital is a major barrier to the implementation of energy conservation and green energy projects.
The City of Toronto’s Better Buildings Partnership offers interest free repayable loans to help overcome that barrier. These interest free loans are available to building owners in the (Municipal/Academic/Social Services/Healthcare) MASH sector, and not-for-profit organizations, as well as private multifamily buildings.
Projects receiving interest free loans may also be considered separately for Energy Savings incentives that BBP offers in partnership with Toronto Hydro Electric System Limited funded by the Ontario Power Authority.
Application for an interest free loan is a two-stage process. Starting with a short ‘Intent to Apply’ form to be submitted to the Energy Efficiency Office. If your project is deemed eligible you will then be asked to submit a detailed application including a comprehensive feasibility study and other documentation.
Please note that the City Manager and Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Officer have been requested to report back to Council through the appropriate Standing Committee in the first quarter of 2012 on the merits of Sustainable Energy loans to non-City agencies and the private sector, given the City’s financial pressures.
